Being able to record four different channels at the same time epitomizes the notion of a power-user's HTPC ... Ceton's InfiniTV 4 can transform your home-theater PC into the ultimate set-top box.
On Thursday, April 8th [Ceton] sent a letter of their own to the FCC to try to get their views across ... Ceton made it abundantly clear that they think that CableCARD is really just now starting to make real progress in the market.
Up until recently if you wanted to have a Media Center that recorded your cable pay channels, you had to buy an certified Windows Media Center. That changed last year when Microsoft opened up the platform allowing any of us to build Media Centers that rely on CableCard. The last mile problem that remained was in finding a tuner that would take a cable card. Ceton has done just that and are taking pre-orders on a PCIe card that will allow you to record up to 4 HD streams at once.
But every so often something totally different comes our way, something that does get us excited ... the new InfiniTV 4 from Ceton easily qualifies. We mean who wouldn't get excited about being able to record 4 HD shows at once and from any channel you want? This is especially true when you consider how difficult it's been for HTPC fans to record premium content until now. Well it seems that for HD loving HTPC fans, your time has finally come, now anyone can build there own DVR that can do things that no other DVR can ...
We all know that technology will not be denied, but there seem to be a lot of pieces that have to fall into place before Mr. and Mrs. Middle America will be using their PC as a set-top box. But I may be missing something, so I turned your questions over to Ed Graczyk, Ceton's CMO and a Microsoft TV veteran. Here's what Ed has to say:
That's right, you can now reserve your place in line to be the first to record four HD cable shows at once on your Windows 7 Media Center.
Ceton Corporation has announced the launch of the Ceton Digital Cable Quad-Tuner card, which it bills as the word's first four-tuner digital cable solution for Windows 7 PC's with Windows Media Center.
Larry Larsen of Microsoft's Channel 9 interviews Ceton CEO Gary Hammer at CES. "This PCIe card will let you install a CableCard in your PC and record up to four HD channels at once. At one booth at CES, they were running two of these cards in one PC, and who wouldn't want to record 8 HD channels at the same time? I met up with Gary Hammer, the President and CEO of Ceton Corporation at CES and asked him some questions about their new TV Tuner."
Sports fans and movie buffs, get your browsers ready. Working with several cable providers, Kirkland, Washington’s own CETON Corp is on the cusp of launching the first HDTV capable Tuner Card that can simultaneously access and record up to 4 HD channels at once. There are more talks to include many of your favorite online movie outlets like Netflix to get optimal use from their unnamed “Quad Tuner Card”. This effectively gives you the best of both worlds: Internet and TV Service.
We make it no secret that our favorite video podcast is HD Nation on Revision3, so you can imagine how honored we were to be invited on to record a few segments on the CES 2010 episode, which included the new Ceton and Silicon Dust CableCARD tuners.
